US Open Results

Congrats to our US Open Champions Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner.

We had a few surprises along the way but the two eventual winners would probably have been favourites for most people to win the title.

In the men's event, Carlos Alcaraz, who did seem to be off his game going into the event was a surprise early exit at the hands of Botic Van De Zandschulp of all people.  And perhaps still relaxing a little too much after securing the Olympic title, Novak Djokovic succumbed to Canadian Open champ Alexei Popyrin.  Americans were prospering however with Taylor Fritz defeating Alexander Zverev to set up an All American semi final with Frances Tiafoe, Siwhile in the other half of the draw Jannik Sinner faced surprise package Jack Draper who took full advantage of Alcaraz's early departure to make it to his first slam semi final.

Fritz won the battle of the Americans and Jannik battled past an ailing Jack Draper to set up what promised to be an entertaining final but ultimately turned out to be a fairly one sided affair with Sinner securing his 2nd grand slam title in straight sets.

In the women's event we had a few surprises too.  Rybakina, who had recently split with her coach, seems to be struggling with health issues at the moment and pulled out of her 2nd round tie.  Reigning champ Coco Gauff fell once again at the hands of the impressive Emma Navarro and Iga Swiatek lost out to Pegula.

In the semi finals Jess Pegula came from behind to beat the talented Karolina Muchova while Aryna Sabalenka saw off the challenge of Emma Navarro.

So it was to be a repeat of the Cincinnati final between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula with Aryna once again coming out on top to secure her 3rd slam title.  Jess can console herself with having had an excellent American swing winning in Canada and finishing runner up in Cincinnati and at Flushing Meadows - a run which is firmly planted her back into a Tour Finals spot. Sabalenka only dropped one set in the whole event (to Alexandrova)

Here is the final global FTL Table for the US Open

And here is the head to head battle between the top 2.

Massive congrats to Kevin Ratcliffe who won the game week and was in fact the only player to break the 1000 barrier.  Congrats also to Christopher (Titanium Pigment) who was the best of the rest although Sonja (Ace Cream) and Akiko (Wimbyfan) were just marginally behind in 3rd and 4th respectively.

Both Kevin and Christopher had the winners in elevated spots.  Kevin had Sabalenka as Captain and Sinner as a KP and also had two other strong KPs in Zverev and Badosa who both made quarter finals.  Christopher Sinner as Captain and Sabalenka as a KP but also had Alcaraz as a KP which ultimately proved costly as Carlos's early exit did not return many bonus points.

Crucially both Kevin and Christopher had the ladies runner up Pegula but only as a TP.  Kevin got decent scores from Swiatek and Medevedev while Kevin had good returns from semi finalist Navarro and Rublev.

Dark horses were also significant with Kevin's DH Stearns outscoring Christopher's Noskova by 25 points due to a 1st round exit for Linda.
